Pride and Prejudice

Much to Greg's dismay, I have recently become a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice. PBS played the long version, I often hear it called the Colin Firth version, in 2 hour increments for several weeks. I REALLY loved that version and had not seen any others...until Sunday. Oxygen (or as Greg puts it, the man hater channel) played the newer, Keira Knightly version. Granted, they had to cut out a TON of stuff because it was a very condensed version, but I hated it. I didn't mind Mr. Darcy and I preferred Jane in the newer version (I liked Jane in the older one but I thought she needed to be prettier) but I hated Keira in it and thought she did a horrible job. I also hated how they changed the events of things and how things occurred. So, this is a really stupid post, but I just wanted to say that the Colin Firth version is a million times better and it's worth sitting through. Don't waste your time on the Keira one.

I have never been into the Jane Austen movies/books. (I'll credit that to some high school friends who couldn't get enough...and it gagged me!!) Anyway--somehow, when I was a Junior in college, some of my friends had a "Pride and Prejudice" marathon with the PBS series. I think we watched all of the segments over a Friday night and Saturday. And, I loved it! That's definitely the version of choice--even for a non-Jane Austen lover.

I was never a fan either. I couldn't stand Jane Austen and Anne of Green Gables and purely because other people were totally into it and I just couldn't bring myself to get into it (sorry Amber, you know I love you) but I wish I would've watched it because I really love it.

I agree with you 100% about the two versions. There is actually an older version that is slightly different as well, but I didn't like it as well either. The super long version is the one I own, and I just think it's the best! I didn't want to watch it at first either because like you said, so many other people liked it I just didn't want to. Then we had to watch it in English my senior year, and I remember being mad because I didn't want to, but Friday's because my favorite school day for weeks until it got over! Even my hubby will watch it with me now!

Okay, the Kiera one really does stink but the Colin Firth one is incredible. And guess what! Seth LOVES it!!! I'm not kidding. He LOVES it! I'm not supposed to tell people but every time I put it on and he is too busy to stay and watch it, he gets upset. Also, when I do start it, he wants to sit through all (almost) six hours of the darn thing rather than break it up.
The new Jane Eyre movie they put out is incredible too and I've never liked a Jane Eyre movie. They just make awesome movies!

Okay, actually I don't know if its the same people that made it, but here's the link to Jane Eyre. Positively as good as and even more passionate than Pride and Prejudice.

I'm totally into Jane Austen, its kinda a new love- with in the last few years. I also watched the PBS one on Sunday night. I guess they show all different Austen stories at that time, on Sunday. I haven't seen the "new" one but I'll just stick with Colin.

Like everyone, I agree. I LOVE Pride and Prejudice. I've watched it about a million times and usually watch all 5 hours together. I liked the look of the new movie but I really didn't like how Keira played Elizabeth and there's never going to be a better Darcy than Colin Firth. The new one didn't even have "the look." (If you're a true fan you know what I'm talking about) Sean really likes the A&E version too. He pretty much gagged at the last scene of the new one. It's where Darcy says, "Mrs. Darcy" and kisses her over and over again. He HATES it! I also really, really love Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson.

I hated that scene too, Emily. It was so stupid. I thought she did a horrible job. I too like Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson, I own that one. I actually watched it the other day with Tea.
