Palmyra
After nearly a year of living in New York, the Atkinsons finally made it over to Palmyra to visit the church sites. We visited early in the spring but didn't find a shady woodland nor sweet birds singing. The powers of sin assailing did came in the form of gnats but it was still great to get to see everything. The first picture is on top of the Hill Cumorah looking west, the ground below is where they preform the pageant. This is the Smith log cabin that has been reconstructed
This is downtown Palmyra
This is the Grandin book store, where the Book of Mormon was printed above
The center of Palmyra has four churches, one on every corner. They range in style from Gothic to Greco-Roman
The path leading to the top of Hill Cumorah
The path to the Sacred Grove
Tea enjoying the path
In about a month I imagine the grove will look lush and green
The old growth trees in the grove form interesting shapes
The Palmyra stake center has been designed to look like a lot of the older more traditional churches in the area

That's really neat! We hope to go there some day.
Is it far from you? I've always wanted to go there to see it. I bet it's really neat. I'm jealous.
We've been there like a hundred times and never been to all those places. Who knew you could go see all those places. We only ever did the hill and grove. But we were kids, so i imagine dad wasn't all that interested in keeping us out without mom for too long... there were 5 of us! haha!
Looks like a fun tourist trip!
Alisa and I visited Palmyra a years ago... it was pretty fun. I would love to go back with Mike. Did you move into your house?
Mindi I didn't know you and Alisa went there! You should for sure go back with Mike. We sign this Friday on our house, YAY!!!
Anna - it's about 2 1/2 hours away. It's a quick drive, not bad at all. If you come visit, we can go there. And, you have been there, you were young but we went there.
is that where you went this weekend? How fun, I bet it was nice not to have tons of people around so you could enjoy :)
Yeah April, we went there yesterday and we went to Lake George on Saturday.
How fun! I love church history and can't wait to one day visit all the sites. Thanks for giving me a glimpse of what I have to look forward to!
I'd love to do that some day. My dad took my brother to tour those sites at the end of his mission last year (he was in NJ). Very cool that you guys got to check it out.
